Inclusions

  • Experience the real Rome with fun, local hosts
  • Make your night out in the Eternal City one to remember
  • Expect unique storytelling and scandalous history
  • A safe, fun space to meet like-minded travellers

Tour Description

One of the best ways to meet new people in the city is to grab a drink together. Solo or with a group, long-stay or short – Tipsy Tour Rome is for you!

This isn’t your typical bar crawl…

Our unique night-time experience combines the best elements of travel: discovering new places, experiencing new things, and meeting new people. Tipsy Tour Rome is the perfect opportunity for travellers to get familiar with Rome’s sights, stories and signature drinks in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with fun local hosts.

The Tipsy Tour…

We’ll start at Piazza Madonna dei Monti. This is where we’ll all start to get to know each other, so expect a warm Italian welcome – aka, a great glass of wine. Drink like the locals, take in the sights, and enjoy the delicious flavours that make Italian food some of the best in the world.

As we head onto the Tipsy Tour’s first stop, the spotlight will be on Carpano Classico. We’ve got some stories about this venerable vermouth! Unravel the history of the man who made it – Antonio Benedetto Carpano – back in 1786 whilst sharing some sips with your newfound friends.

Then, we’ll make our way to Monti. An uber-trendy district filled with quirky bars and cobblestoned streets, there’s plenty to unpack here. In ancient times, Monti was known as the Suburra, essentially the red-light district of Ancient Rome and a dangerous place to be after dark. Drinks and scandalous suburra stories? Yes, please.

Our final stop is Rome’s most iconic road: Via Fori Imperiali. The views of the ancient city are best enjoyed on a marble bench by a statue of Julius Caesar with an ice-cold limoncello – trust us. Sip away as your guide tells shocking stories of the power-hungry Roman emperors who once ruled the known world.

At 11 p.m., the experience officially ends, but the night out begins! We will continue drinking with our new friends at Rome’s most popular bars!

Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience. We promise to make your night in Rome one you’ll never forget!

Highlights

  • Traditional Roman drinks in trendy local bars
  • A fun-loving guide and like-minded group of travellers
  • Discover some of the darker, more scandalous stories from Roman history

Piazza Madonna dei Monti

The Tipsy Tour’s first stop at Piazza Madonna dei Monti immerses you in the heart of Roman life. Surrounded by charming cobblestone streets, you’ll savour wine like a local, sharing laughter and stories with your newfound friends.

Carpano Classico

Carpano Classico was created by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, an Italian distiller, in 1786. He skillfully mixed a variety of botanicals to create something beautiful and enduring.

As you enjoy your glass, and you’ve got to hear us out for this – you’ll realise we’re basically doing the same thing. We’re mixing a great group of people to create some Roman magic and an adventure you’ll never forget. See what we did there?

Sippin’ on Spritz

Take part in a truly Italian tradition – an evening spritz (other traditions include terrible driving, excessive hand-waving, and wearing sunglasses even after dark.) We’ll be visiting a bar in the heart of Monti – a trendy, studenty neighbourhood today but the dark underbelly of the capital back in the day – full of brothels, gang hideouts, and home to a certain Julius Caesar.

Limoncello

To you and I, it might be Friday night lemonade, but to the Italians, Limoncello is something more: a sweet, sugary after-dinner digestif. Best enjoyed under Caesar’s statue. It’s what he would have wanted.

As you sip your drink, your guide will wow you with tales of Caesar’s life, death, and raucous affair with Queen Cleopatra (not in that order).

Bars

Where the tipsy tour ends, the night out begins! We’ll finish our itinerary and conveniently find ourselves ideally situated in Rome’s historic centre – ready and raring to take advantage of the Eternal City that never sleeps.

Rome by Night Walking Tour https://www.carpediemtours.com/rome/rome-night-walking-tour/ Mon, 01 Feb 2021 09:56:00 +0000 https://dev.www.carpediemtours.com/?post_type=tours&p=1511

Inclusions

  • Fluent, expert guide
  • Small, intimate group (15 guests max)

Tour Description

Join us on a journey through Roman history on our immersive Rome by Night Walking Tour. Your expert guide will share the city’s secrets, history, and fascinating tales—from antiquity through to the modern day, and at a pace to suit you.

Meet your guide in Piazza Navona

Our tour starts in Rome’s most picturesque square, Piazza Navona, where the ancient Romans used to watch athletic contests (agones). Today’s piazza sits above the ancient stadium and boasts Gian Lorenzo Bernini‘s stunning Fountain of the Four Rivers as its centrepiece.

Admire the Pantheon without the crowds

A five-minute walk from Piazza Navona takes us to the world-famous Pantheon. Constructed more than two-thousand years ago by the eccentric emperor Hadrian, the Pantheon was consecrated as a monument to all the pagan gods (pan theos, in Greek meaning all the gods). This second-century temple is one of the best-preserved monuments in the Roman Empire and its unreinforced concrete dome still perplexes architects.

Discover the Trevi Fountain at the quietest time of day

Our next stop is the iconic Trevi Fountain. Immortalised by Anita Ekberg wading through its water in Federico Fellini’s iconic film La Dolce Vita, the Trevi Fountain one of the most romantic spots in the Eternal City. Snap your photos of the monument in the moonlight, listen to your guide decipher its symbols, and toss a coin over your shoulder to guarantee your return to Rome.

Stroll through ancient Rome on your Rome by Night Walking Tour

We emerge from Rome’s winding backstreets onto Piazza Venezia. Stretching from the foot of the Capitoline Hill, against the backdrop of the Altar of the Fatherland, Piazza Venezia is Rome’s most recognisable square, and a repository of history involving figures from Napoleon to Mussolini.

Your guide will lead you down the Via dei Fori Imperiali, the boulevard that cuts through ancient Rome, past Trajan’s Column and alongside the forums of Trajan, Augustus and Nerva. Your guide will feed your curiosity and nourish you with knowledge about ancient Rome and its empire as you make your way towards the most famous monument of all: the Colosseum.

Your Rome by Night Walking Tour ends beneath the Colosseum

The Colosseum is one of the most awe-inspiring attractions that has survived from antiquity. As a colossal feat of architecture and engineering, its form has been replicated throughout the ages, manifested in stadiums and sports venues around the world. But while its form is familiar to us, the spectacles it accommodated are entirely alien, and remind us of the violent nature of Roman culture.

Group sizes are 15 people maximum.
